We are proud that our curriculum offer is: Rooted Here. Ready Everywhere.
At Newtown Linford Primary School, we believe every child should develop a strong sense of who they are, where they belong and what they are capable of becoming.
Our curriculum is built upon the National Curriculum and shaped by the unique character of our school and community. Rooted in our local environment, heritage and values, it provides children with the knowledge, vocabulary, skills and experiences they need to flourish in modern Britain and the wider world.

A Curriculum Shaped by Place
Bradgate Park, Charnwood Forest, village history and strong community partnerships help children develop a sense of belonging, curiosity and pride in where they come from.
At the same time, we broaden horizons through diverse literature, educational visits, residential experiences, enrichment opportunities and memorable learning beyond the classroom, preparing children for life beyond Newtown Linford.

Language at the Heart
Language unlocks learning. Reading, writing, vocabulary, oracy and purposeful discussion are woven through every subject, enabling children to understand, communicate and apply their learning with confidence.

Knowledge That Lasts
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that learning builds over time. Children develop both substantive knowledge (what they learn) and disciplinary knowledge (how subjects work), helping them think critically, solve problems and make meaningful connections.

Strong Foundations
Strong foundations underpin future success. We prioritise reading, writing, maths and oracy, ensuring that every child secures the essential knowledge and skills needed to flourish. Handwriting and spelling are taught explicitly, guided reading develops fluent, confident readers, and Mastering Number builds flexibility and fluency in maths. Learning is broken into carefully sequenced steps, with regular review and retrieval ensuring knowledge is retained and built upon over time.
Ambitious for Every Child
We have high expectations for every pupil. Through quality first teaching, effective scaffolding, adaptive support and purposeful challenge, every child is known, valued and empowered to achieve their very best.
The Difference We Make
When children leave Newtown Linford, they are:
- proud of who they are and where they come from;
- curious about the wider world;
- knowledgeable, thoughtful learners;
- articulate and confident communicators;
- respectful, responsible citizens;
- resilient and independent individuals;
- ready for the next stage of their education and beyond.
Curriculum Organisation
Our mixed-age classes follow a carefully planned two-year curriculum cycle (Cycle A and B). This ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum while providing a coherent sequence of learning that builds knowledge and skills progressively over time. The curriculum maps below show the current cycle.
